“
Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
” imc wrote this story on December 11 2009 at 10:52 (10:52 AM) ET: Every once in a while, I get a synctext that causes me to totally change the way I think about Synctext. This was one of those.

I've been in a rut recently where a lot of my synctexts have seemed either (1) irrelevant, or (2) ironic. I've been using Synctext for a long time, so I know that when this happens, it's an indication of something, and I should pay attention and try to... Continue reading »

Patience
” imc wrote this story on November 19 2009 at 09:26 (9:26 AM) ET: I was rushing home from work, but I had to stop to pick up some groceries, including some flour for baking. There's a bin of bulk flour at the market where I shop, and someone was there in front of me scooping flour from it, taking what seemed like forever to me in my impatient state. I stood there waiting for minute, then decided I should just get the other items on my list, then return to get the flour later. A moment later, I got this.  Comments »

Rome wasn't built in a day.
” imc wrote this story on October 14 2009 at 11:29 (11:29 AM) ET: This was the most uncanny, unbelievable alert I have received in a while. I had just switched all my alerts to the new American Proverbs message set over the weekend. Then we had some relatives over for dinner on Monday night. They had just returned from a trip to Italy. My wife's uncle was showing me some printed photos of the Colosseum that he took when they were in Rome, and I got this... Continue reading »

“
Accomplish as a human accomplishes, not as a machine accomplishes.
” imc wrote this story on June 28 2009 at 23:22 (11:22 PM) ET: I'm a software engineer and statistician by profession, and I added this alert message to remind me not to enter the state of blinkered robotism that can sometimes characterize my line of work. I've definitely noticed that this message arrives more often while I'm programming than at other times. I'm going to try to use the Notes feature in my online alert history to keep better track of all the times I get this one. I'll report my statistical findings :)  Comments »
