Less than 5 hours later an M6.3 occurred in the Aleutian Islands followed by an M7.0 near New Zealand about 10 hours later at 16:35 UT. These are the first quakes to exceed M6 in a week.  Comments »

” Psientist wrote this story on May 3 2010 at 11:36 (11:36 AM) ET: Yesterday I looked in my spam box which I rarely do, and there was an email from a company saying they had sent a dividend check to my home and it had been returned as undeliverable.(I have been working away from home and the post office is not good about forwarding mail). Shortly after, I got a call from a local clothing store inviting me to a special sale and "party" they are having later this week. 3 day warnng, Here comes an earthquake!!!!
” Psientist wrote this story on February 6 2010 at 16:36 (4:36 PM) ET: I have been involved in earthquake forecasting research for 30 years. I thought it would be fun to add an earthquake warning to my messages to see if it might work. On Feb 1, I received the message above. On Feb 4, there was a rare M5.9 earthquake off the coast of northern California. California only has one or two quakes of this magnitude per year.

Get your camera out
” Psientist wrote this story on January 23 2010 at 19:51 (7:51 PM) ET: A huge weather front has just dumped a lot of snow on the Sedona red rocks. This afternoon for the first time in 4 days the weather is clearing and clouds are swirling around the peaks. At these rare times in the desert, I always go take photographs of the beautiful scenery. Today I received not just one, but two messages saying "get your camera out". I was going to do it anyway but what synchronicity! I received only three messages today and two were about the camera.  Comments »
